In this Peas in a Pod session, we will facilitate a discussion about best practices and innovations in this important area of assessment. Our objective is to discuss challenges and successes in making certification more accessible to candidates with a wide variety of backgrounds and needs. It also involves reaching those with cognitive disorders, including a neurodiverse population, and everything in between. Inclusivity encompasses many facets of test delivery, including affordability, use of language in content development, availability of exams in language of origin, and ability to use assistive technologies. In order to meet the needs of a diverse demographic of test-takers, assessments need to become more accessible and more inclusive. Though it is not possible to use a pool-based design with every exam program, this session challenges the audience to think critically about whether such a test design might be a better fit for their exam program than LFF. Pool-based test designs are alternatives that mitigate some drawbacks of LFF designs. However, to ensure reasonable examinee accessibility to test scheduling, many programs require on-demand testing where examinees can take the exam at their convenience.įurthermore, the recent COVID epidemic has led to more use of online proctored test delivery.

Many testing programs use a linear fixed-form test design, but this design can be vulnerable to test-security threats and is therefore best suited for exams that are administered in a short testing event at a secure test center.
